Blanketflower – Seed Packet
ABOUT: Perennial wildflower native to the Western United States, including the Inland Northwest. Also called Indian Blanket. the plant’s daisy-like flowers are brilliant red with edges tipped in yellow, like a colorful pinwheel. Plants bloom summer to fall and are drought tolerant. Prefers: Full sun. Ht: 2’ tall.
HOW TO GROW: In late spring or fall, direct sow seeds in full sun in poor but well drained soil. Alternatively, start seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before the last frost and plant out. Lightly cover seeds and tamp in. Final spacing: 12-18″.
FUN FACT: Meriwether Lewis collected the first specimen of this plant on July 7, 1806. Journal notes say only it was found “in open hills on the Rocky Mountains” likely in Montana.
