Mexican Sunflower – Seed Packet
Also known as Tithonia or “Torch”, this 5-6′ tall annual provides 3-3.5″ orange, daisy-like flowers from midsummer well into fall. Bushy plants provide excellent habitat for butterflies, bees, and beneficial insects who all love to sip nectar from its prolific blooms. American Goldfinches stop by for its seeds. Perfect at the back of the border or as an informal, annual summer hedge. Makes a good cut flower too.
HOW TO GROW: Prefers full sun. Direct sow outdoors 2 weeks after the last frost. Barely cover seeds or press them into the soil, as light is required for germination. Alternatively, start seed inside 6 weeks before the last frost and plant out. Final spacing: 12-24″. Tolerates poor soil.
