Narrowleaf Milkweed – Seed Packet
ABOUT: Monarch butterflies only lay eggs on one type of plant, and that’s milkweed. Help save the Monarchs by growing more of their essential host plant! Inland Northwest native perennial, 2-3’ tall with narrow leaves & clusters of light pink flowers. Blooms: mid-summer. Prefers: full sun. Note: this species is more diminutive and less spreading than Showy Milkweed, making it a great choice for the home butterfly garden. It is also known as Mexican Whorled Milkweed.
HOW TO GROW: Place the seeds in a damp paper towel and seal up inside a small sandwich baggie that is placed in a sunny window to germinate. Once sprouted move to pony packs and later to 4″ pots. When the seedlings are ready to plant outside, they should be spaced about 18″ apart. Note: in my experience these seeds germinate without cold stratification, unlike other varieties.
CAUTION: The white sap of the milkweed plant can be toxic in large amounts. Avoid skin/eye contact and do not ingest
