Valerian – Seed Packet

ABOUT: Perennial herb with a history of medicinal use dating back to the 16th century. Also known as garden heliotrope, valerian root, cat’s valerian, setwell, and St. George’s herb. Flowers are usually white or (sometimes) pale pink. Ht: 4-6′ tall.

HOW TO GROW: Direct sow in spring or fall, or start seeds indoors around 6-8 weeks before the last frost date and plant out. Exposing seeds to a period of cold will aid germination rates (place them in the freezer for a few weeks prior to sowing). Days to germination: 14-21. Seed depth: 1/2″ Final spacing: 18″ in 3′ rows. Plants prefer moist, well drained soil in full sun to partial shade.
